The wait for local strawberries is over.

“The hot weather we had in April pushed things along and the blooms came early,” said Nancy Blevins, of Blevins Fruit Farm in Hopewell Township.

Overall, that’s good news not only for strawberries growers, but also for most local fruits and vegetables producers.

Local growers of apples, peaches and other fruits hope to benefit from the early crop brought on by the warm April temperatures.

At Shaw Orchards in Hopewell Township, strawberries should be available by the week of May 21, said Mary Sue Shaw, owner of the business.

“They bloomed early but it is a little hard to predict exactly when the strawberries will be ready, but it looks like its going to be a good crop,” she said.
